Obama to re-emerge in ‘delicate dance’ with Dems | TheHill

Former President Obama will re-emerge on the national scene this fall, though Democrats expect him to do so with caution. One aide describes the beginning of a “delicate dance” that aims to put Obama in the Democratic fray, but prevent him from remaining the face of the party. Aides will huddle with Obama in the coming weeks to plot out what shape the former president’s fall schedule will take. Advisers close to him say that while he will play an active role in helping his party rebuild, much of his work will be behind the scenes. He is likely to take on fundraising, for example, something he has done for the Democratic National Committee and the National Democratic Redistricting Committee since leaving office.

Analysis: Can a president at war with both Republicans and Democrats govern?

From the start of his unconventional campaign two years ago, Trump has been more of a populist than a Republican, from his combative style to his protectionist stance on trade. His ability to reach voters drawn by his personal appeal rather than his party affiliation has been a source of political strength and possibility in a nation where allegiance to both Republicans and Democrats has eroded.

Now that he’s resigned from Congress, Jason Chaffetz is unloading on Republican congressional leadership for not living up to the promises made to voters.

Chaffetz said Republicans repealed ObamaCare 50 times while he served as a congressman from Utah — but “that was pretend.”

“Now it’s real” and we’re not doing anything, he said.

“Republicans, their deal with America was: If you give us the House of Representatives, we can play defense; if you give us the Senate, we can play a little bit offense; you give us the House, the Senate, and the presidency and we can actually get things done,” Chaffetz said Wednesday night on Fox News. “And so here we are seven months into it and they haven’t even passed a bill yet.”

DNC email server most wanted evidence for Russia investigations – Washington Times

Some critics say CrowdStrike’s evidence for blaming Russia for the hack is thin. Members of Congress say they still believe Russia was responsible but wonder why the DNC has never allowed federal investigators to get a look at the key piece of evidence: the server. Either way, a key “witness” in the political scandal consuming the Trump administration remains beyond the reach of investigators.

A Kenyan crowdsourcing tool will monitor the U.S. election for fraud

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has refused to say he’d accept the outcome of next week’s election if he loses. He has claimed, despite lack of evidence, that the ballots will be “rigged” against him.

If that does happen, a crowdsourcing tool invented in Kenya is prepared to document it.

Kenya knows a thing or two about contested elections, which some speculate may be a situation the U.S. finds itself in next week. In response to violence following the country’s 2007 presidential contest when Raila Odinga refused to acknowledge the victory of opponent Mwai Kibaki, a group of coders developed a platform to document where protests were occurring. They named the crisis map Ushahidi, which means “testimony” in Swahili.
